Building futures for young people
Our mission is to support disadvantaged and excluded young people in Stevenage by using boxing and alternative education to promote emotional resilience, physical fitness, employability, and personal growth.
We are looking to build a community where every young person, regardless of background or barriers, has access to tools, support, and opportunities to thrive.
We offer an Alternative Learning Development Programme, for children from Year 7 upwards, including pupils currently excluded, at risk of exclusion or disengagement from school, Students facing emotional, behavioural, or social challenges and Children with special educational needs not well supported in mainstream environments.
By including a Boxing for Change element with structured boxing based training run by qualified England Boxing Coaches, we can focus on confidence, listening, team-working, anger management, and discipline.
We also use Accredited Education Pathways leading Certificates, reintroducing young people back into mainstream education.

Subjects include:
Functional Maths and English
Sport Leadership
Introduction to Building and Construction
Barbering Academy
GB Boxing Awards

Certificates provide tangible achievements for CVs and future education or employment.
MENTORING AND COUNSELLING
Building relationships and trust with the young people we work with is a
fundamental part of the provision at MG Support. We have a dedicated team of mentors ready to assist students that may be having a difficult time. Whether it be making use of the town centre on our doorstep, our dedicated
recreational room or the fantastic facilities Stevenage town has to offer, young people will have plenty to keep them occupied.
We are delighted to offer our very own on-site counselling services for any
students that may wish to speak with someone. If you would like a student to attend, we would require a week’s notice to book their time slot. Much like many of our other services there will be a great demand for this. We do request that you contact us at the earliest opportunity to secure a place for your students.
ABOUT

The John Pryor Sports and Youth Centre (JPSYC), founded in 1992, is a registered charity based in Stevenage dedicated to supporting and educating young people physically, mentally, and socially, especially those who have been failed by or excluded from mainstream education. We deliver a unique alternative learning and development programme centred on the transformative power of boxing and structured educational pathways.
Informed by Stevenage’s socioeconomic challenges, including high youth obesity rates, significant deprivation in wards like Bedwell and Bandley Hill, and growing numbers of children living in low-income families; our work is focused, relevant, and vital.
Our goal is to help every young person we work with realise their potential, re-engage with education, and build confidence, resilience, and purpose.

Please reach out to us if you feel we can assist in any educational needs for young people under your care.
